It's 50% on steam and the reviews are great from sites, but user reviews are awful.

Is it still buggy?

Hopefully 1.3 fixes the bug I have which makes clicking on certain fleets cause a crash to desktop... If not, I can't see myself playing it again until at least 1.4. Although by the looks of that list of bugfixes, I think mine may fall under one of the catagories.

The campaign map is quite fun; at least it would be without the crash bug. I conquered pretty much the entire world as the Russians (easy settings for my first game) and found everything except the loadscreens, crashes, and crappy AI around forts to be enjoyable.

My best moment so far was when a charge of 2 units of cavalry came down an alley at 3 cannons loaded with cannister shot. Of the 90 cavalry, about 10 lived past the initial shots, only to be wiped out by my own flanking cavalry.

@Mazuo: In the early years of the campaign, that is mostly what infantry battles are. However, by the time you research more and more of the tech tree, your soldiers get more accurate, and more importantly, much faster firing rates. The reload times on the guns are pretty much accurate, with the early ones taking quite awhile before more shots are taken. By the end of the game, your infantry are laying down pretty much constant fire. As far as naval battles go, I usually relegate them to autoresolve (mostly because I can't stand the 3 minute load times on battles, but also because I usually really outnumber/outgun them). However, the battles are quite impression, especially when you bring out the huge ships such as the heavy first rate. A broadside from 50+ cannons (per side) of the heavy first rates is very impressive, especially when used against some poor 10 gunned sloop.

Frankly I think it was worth full price from 1.1.  Nothing's perfect.

Really?  Even with naval invasions not happening?

Well I played a huge game as the small Indian faction and never noticed, lol.  (I did protect my shores, etc though heh)

It's broken w/o naval invasions.

It's supposedly fixed monday, with the patch, though.

Modders still can't access the models or campaign map (for some reason SEGA chose to encrypt the files that have been modable in every previous TW title). Consequently, the potential for great moding is VASTLY reduced. Unless something changes, there will be no Total Realism, no equivalent of Europa Barborum or Stainless Steel, no must-have historicity mod of any kind for Empire. For me, at least, that means its worth about $10 tops.

I got it for 50% off... so I think thats worth it. Its sad note that mods can't be made with it...

I've never had a single issue with this game >.>

I bought it mainly because it was 50%, but even after the latest patch it's as buggy as hell.  I haven't had any issues with it crashes as yet (but then I probably haven't played it for long enough to experience those issues). The main problem I get is with the menus and UI flickering until I change the graphics settings. It happens everytime I load a game.

4 months on and it's still bugged. That's bush.
